With a staggering AUD $100,000 buy-in, Event # 8 at the 2009 Aussie Millions attracted the who’s who of the poker world. A total of 23 players entered the event, including luminaries such as Phil Ivey, Tony G, John Juanda, JC Tran, Chris Ferguson, Erik Seidel, Patrik Antonius and Gus Hansen. In the end, it was Hong Kong commodities trader David Steicke who came out on top of a very tough field to win the $1.2 million top prize.

To add to the fun and level of difficulty, the tournament was in “speed format”. This meant that players only had 30 seconds to act. The betting was also pot-limit pre-flop and no-limit after the flop. This may confuse some poker beginners but for the pros who entered this tournament, the format wasn’t the problem. It was the tough competition.

At the end of Day 1, it was David Steicke in the lead entering the final table. He had 631,000 in chips. JC Tran was close behind with 528,000. John Juanda was also a contender with 480,000 in chips.

But it was clearly David Steicke’s day as he practically blew open the final table. The first to be eliminated was John Juanda who was sent to the rail by JC Tran. Juanda raised with pocket jacks and was called by Tran on the big blind with Qh-4h. The flop was Qs-Qd-10h, giving Tran trips. Tran check-raised Juanda who moved all in and was called. Tran then proceeded to add insult to injury by hitting a full house.

After Juanda’s elimination, it was the David Steicke Show all the way. He eliminated Bill Jourdanou who found himself facing Steicke’s pocket kings with his pocket queens. Then it was Dan Shak’s turn to feel Steicke’s wrath when his pocket 3s were clearly dominated by Tran’s pocket 7s.

By now, Steicke had a massive chip lead versus remaining opponents JC Tran and Tony Bloom. After Steicke raised with Kd-Jh before the flop, Tran went in for all his chips with Kc-6d. Steicke’s hand help

Steicke would enter heads-up play with a 10-1 chip lead over Tony Bloom. A mere few hands into heads-up, Bloom pushed with Ac-4s. Steicke called with 10s-3s. Unfortunately for Bloom, Steicke hit the 10 on the river giving him the win. Bloom won $600,000 for his 2nd place finish.

The 2009 PokerStars Carribean Adventure’s Main Event has ended and when the dust cleared, an underdog emerged as champion. Online qualifier Poorya Nazari has joined the list of poker millionaires with his triumph in a tough field of 1,347 entrants. To win his millions, Nazari had to wade through a sea of 746 online qualifiers, WSOP bracelet winners and EPT champions.

The win by Nazari is sure to be declared another Cinderalla story by the press who are starved for another Chris Moneymaker story. Nazari won his seat to the Main Event via a $700 investment in a rebuy qualifier. This investment turned into a $3 Million dollar payday and instant poker fame.

The win didn’t come easy for Nazari. He had to deal with a very tough final table with 2008 WSOP bracelet winner Alexandre Gomes at chip lead during the start of play. Lucky for Nazari, Gomes ended up busting in fourth place versus Benny Spindler. Gomes’ demise was painful as he had a full house versus Spindler’s unbeatable quads.

The final table play started fast and furious. After a mere three hours, four players were sent to the rail. After Gomes’ elimination, table play slowed down and it took four and half-hours for Benny Splinder to bust out in third place so heads up play could begin. Splinder also joins the list of poker millionaires as he takes hom $1,100,000 for his third

It was Nazari versus Tony Gregg heads-up but it only took Nazari four hands to put the nail in the coffin. In the last hand, both players were all-in pre-flop—Nazari with Ac-10h and Gregg with Qd-7s. The flop was 10c-6c-5c giving Nazari top pair. The turn was 3s giving Gregg an inside straight draw. But luck wasn’t on Gregg’s side this time when the river came up 9d, giving Nazari the win. Gregg’s runner-up finish earned him $1,700,000.

Amit Makhija, who is slowly but surely making a name for himself in the world of poker, has captured the “High Rollers’ title at Fill Tilt’s Online Poker Series (FTOPS X) last Sunday. Makhija paid the steep $5,000+200 buy-in (after all, there needs to be a reason why this was called the “High Rollers” event) and eventually made his way to the top to be crowned champ.

Makhija was a dominant force as he was chip leader among 35 players as action resumed on Sunday and was able to retain his lead when final table was called. When the dust cleared after the feeding frenzy at the final table, only three players remained with Amit “amak316” Makhija still holding the advantage with 1,364,684 in chips. KaKetKa had 982,756 in chips while PureCash25 had 652,560.

PureCash25 actually took over chip lead but found himself losing in a race with his A-K against Makhija’s pocket queens. With only 265,998 in chips, PureCash25 busted out in third place (versus Makhija’s now overwhelming 2,186,192) for a $262,500 payday.

Going into heads-up play, Makhija had an almost 5-to-1 chip advantage and this proved to be insurmountable. On the button, he shoved with over 2.8 million in chips with A-2. KaKetKa called with 195,310 with Ks-8s. The board was a dismal 2h-9c-Jd-9s-4h, sealing the win for a jubilant Makhija. KaKeTKa earned $362,500 for his second place finish. For his impressive win, Makhija adds $550,000 to his bankroll.

This is another feather in Makhija’s cap, who is considered to be one of the rising stars in the realm of poker today. He was in the final table of the $10,000 Pot-Limit Hold’em World Championship at the WSOP where he finished in fifth place for $198,000. He also finished in 2nd place at the Championship Event at Legends of Poker where he won $563,000.

When an agency calls itself Poker Royalty, it will be hard-pressed to live up to its title. It’s a good thing that the high-profile agency for professional poker players is meeting expectations and working double-time to beef up its roster of clients. Poker Royalty’s newest client is David Chiu, considered by most as the most successful poker player that was born in China.

Players who sign up with Poker Royalty agree that they be represented for all their marketing and promotional needs. Ideally, this enables the players to ignore the gobbledygook that goes on around them and just focus on what is important—winning at the felt. Poker Royalty handles everything from mainstream media to commercial endorsements. We can assume they also get a pretty hefty cut for all their troubles.

It really shouldn’t be a surprise that Chiu was the next in line to join Poker Royalty. Poker is starting to attract a lot of attention in Asia and someone like Chiu can only strengthen the interest further. Chiu’s has won over $6 million dollars in tournaments. To add to an already glowing poker resume, Chiu has won four WSOP bracelets and a WPT championship. Just how good a poker player is he? He has cashed 44 times at the World Series of Poker. That should be proof enough.

Other poker pros signed up by Poker Royalty include Johnny Chan, Antonio Esfandiari, Gus Hansen, Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Erick Lindgren, Evelyn Ng and Scotty Nguyen. The line-up is growing and if Poker Royalty keeps at it, anyone who wants to have anything to do with a major poker star might very well have to get through them.

He won a World Series of Poker bracelet this year, and he now has an EPT trophy to go with it. Aside from bragging rights, the young German also takes home €1,361,000 in prize money.

Ruthenberg started the final table just shy of chip lead (1,204,000) coming in second after Martin Nielsen (1,229,000). But anything can happen in poker and true enough, it was Nielsen who ended up being eliminated first when Jason Mercier flipped open a better two pair. Samuel Chartier followed Nielsen to the exits just moments later in seventh place after he was eliminated by Fintan Gavin.

EPT San Remo champion Jason Mercier ran out of luck when he pushed with a pair of sevens against Fintan Gavin’s pocket queens. The board didn’t help and Mercier was eliminated in sixth place. Gavin continued his winning streak by taking out Dren Ukella who failed to make his nut flush draw. Urkella had to be content with a fifth place finish.

Daniele Mazzia’s two pair was no match to Sebastian Ruthenberg’s straight after Ruthenberg and Davidi Kitai both called his all-in and checked down the board. Mazzia’s fourth place finish earned him €351,000. Ruthenberg then took Davidi Kitai out when his pocket fours held up against A,Q of diamonds. Kitai won €455,000 for third place.

When the dust cleared, it was Ruthenberg against Gavin in heads up. Unfortunately for Gavin, his time in the spotlight was short as Ruthenberg used a nearly 5:1 chip advantage to win his first EPT title in just three hands. Gavin settled for a second place finish and €792,000.

U.S. poker player Yevgeniy Timoshenko bested 257 entrants to the APT Macau Main Event to win first prize and $500,000 in prize money. The 20-year old Timoshenko, known as ?Jovial Gent? in online play, was in full control of the last stages of the game as he eliminated all but one of the eight who made it to the final table.

The Asian Poker Tour Macau event was held at the Galaxy StarWorld Casino. The event was starved of players and the number of players was not sufficient to create the guaranteed $1.5 million prize pool. No worries because APT kept its promise and honored the guarantee.

At the start of the final table, Michael Pedley moved his chips all-in. No surprise there because he had the shortest chip stack. Quang Nguyen booted him out by drawing a nut flush taking chip lead. Unfortunately for Nguyen, this would be short-lived because it was Timoshenko?s show from that moment on.

Timoshenko then proceeded to pick off the players one by one, starting with Chong Wing Cheong and then followed by Quang Nguyen himself. In the next hand, Timoshenko then sent Julio Diaz to the rail. Then followed the departure of Day 2 chip leader Casey Kastle, courtesy of Timoshenko again who dealt another back-to-back elimination by taking out Rober Karian in the next hand. With Karian finishing in third place with $126,000, there was only Joon Hee Yeah standing between Timoshenka and a victory.

Timoshenko had an almost 10:1 chip advantage over Yeah and although the latter put up a fight, Timoshenko was just too strong. Timoshenko clinched the win with pocket Queens leaving Yeah with $250,000 for second place.

Popular poker pros present at the tournament included Doyle Brunson, Todd Brunson, Johnny Chan, J.C. Tran, Huck Seed, John Juanda and Mel Judah. The next APT event will be held in Seoul, South Korea.

The online casino features a wide selection of innovative and entertaining slots with outstanding design and animation that take the game to the next level.

The classic 3 reel slot machines and multi-line video slots are available in downloadable software, for free or for real-money play. The games are rich with bonus features such as Wild and Scatter symbols, free rounds, and amusing bonus games.

“Gold Rock’s bonus slots are undoubtedly the most engaging ones on the web, thanks to bonus games that include elaborate animation sequences with funny storylines” says casino manager Alex Carlyle. For example, in the 25-lines slot Cashasaurus the player helps a caveman choose the right weapon to defeat a T-Rex in several rounds; In the fairytale world of Happily Ever After, the player guesses which toad should be kissed by the princess. The games are funny, lively, and yield great wins.

The exciting new software downloads fast, loads quickly and delivers an original look and feel. New members of the casino are welcome to enjoy a variety of promotions, starting from a 100% match bonus up to $100 free. Additional promotions are offered to members periodically by email, and valuable players such as loyal members and high-rollers receive extra benefits.

In addition to games Gold Rock Casino provides a guide with rules and strategies, as well as a Gambling Magazine with articles about the world of casino players. With a focus on European players, the site is available in English, German, Swedish, and soon also in Norwegian.

“Gold Rock Casino is committed to provide extraordinary games, excellent care, and exciting promotions” says Carlyle. Support staff is available 24/7 via email, live chat, and phone, and the casino offers several convenient and secure methods to buy chips and withdrawal winnings.

“With the new software packed with extraordinary slot games” sums up Carlyle, “Gold Rock is the most welcoming casino online for players who love the game and are ready to try an experience that is fresh and compelling.”
