Salvatore Bonavena Crowned EPT Champion in Prague
After a hard fought battle, Salvatore Bonavena finished on top at the Main Event of the PokerStars European Poker Tour in Prague. Bonavena’s final table odyssey was a roller-coaster ride as he lost and regained chip lead several times before finally being crowned champion. For his amazing victory versus fellow Italian Massimo Di Cicco in a heads-up match that lasted for an hour, Bonavena takes home €774,000 in prize money.
Raul Mestre was short stacked at the final table and he wasted no time getting all his chips in with Ac-7c. Fredrik Nygard called with 9d-9h. The flop was 8s-jh-3h. The Ah hit the turn giving Mestre the lead but leaving Nygard with a flush draw. The rivered Qh gave Nygard the win and sent Mestre home with €71,800 for 8th place.
Seventh place and €99,500 went to Nasr El Nasr when he pushed his chips in the middle with Kd-Jd. Andrew Chen called him with 10s-10h and proceeded to hit trips with a dangerous 10d-4d-2c flop. Unfortunately for Nasr, the turn and river didn’t help and he busted out.
Chen then proceeded to eliminate Fredrik Nygard in sixth place after he called Nygard’s all-in preflop with Qs-2h. Nygard was ahead with Ah-8s but it was Chen’s moment of glory when Chen hit a 2 on the flop and Nygard hit absolutely nothing on the board. Chen continued his rush by busting out Francesco Cirianni who moved all in pre-flop with Ah-8h. Chen dominated Cirianni with Ad-Qh and held on until the river. Cirianni won €166,000 for his fifth place finish.
Bonavena countered Chen’s mad rush by busting out Alexiou Konstantinos in fourth place. Konstantinos raised preflop with pocket 3s and decided to call Bonavena who moved all in over the top with Kh-Qs. Bonavena hit a King on the river to send Konstantinos home with €199,000.
Despite his winning ways, Chen was the next to fall as he moved all-in preflop with Kc-Qd. Bonavena called him with Ac-6h and ended up hitting a straight. Chen won €257,000 for his third place finish.
Despite Bonavena’s chip advantage during heads up play, Massimo Di Cicco was able to briefly take over chip lead. Sill all came to naught. On the last hand, Di Cicco raised preflop with Ad-4s. Bonavena called. The flop was 8h-3h-2h and Di Cicco moved all-in. Bonavena called holding 8d-7d and top pair. The turn and river were of no help to Di Cicco and he had to settle for €445,000 and second place.
