PokerStars Aims to Break Record in Biggest Cash Tournament of All Time
Mark the date. On December 28, 2008 at 3:30pm ET, PokerStars plans to hold a tournament that will probably be known as the biggest cash tournament of all time—at least when it comes to field size. Wondering if this is all hype? Probably not. PokerStars has contacted the Guinness Book of World Records in anticipation of this event.
So what’s so special about this tournament that it promises to draw in thousands of poker players from all over the world? Well, it’s going to be an $11 tournament with a $500,000 guarantee. So you can imagine how many people are going to show up hoping for a gigantic payday. Another great thing about the tournament is that PokerStars has capped the number of entrants. Therefore, only 35,000 poker players can take part in this event. This means that PokerStars will need to add $150,000 to the prize pool even they get 35,000 players to sign up. Talk about a holiday present!
PokerStars has been a haven for poker players seeking massive guarantees over the past year. In last Sunday’s $200,000 tournament, 25,000 poker players registered and one lucky winner ran off with $25,000. That tournament also had an $11 buy-in. Definitely not a bad investment but with 25,000 players to contend with, that winner certainly earned every dollar of that prize money.
Curious about the tournament structure? It’s going to be fast with 10-minute levels. Chip count will start at 3,000. The winner of the tournament will get around $30,000. If you are among the top 8,750 players, you will be in the money.
