Brussels Warns Germany On Banning Online Gambling
Brussels has written to Germany asking it to reconsider a proposed ban on online gaming, and warned that the country faces possible legal action if it proceeds with the legislation.
EU industry commissioner Guenter Verheugen has written to German regional state governments giving them a month to change the draft treaty on the issue or face action.
“We think a proposed total ban is disproportionate and there are less restrictive measures, such as mandatory prior registration and strict guarantees on identification,” Verheugen said.
“We feel Germany has not provided sufficient data that justified the total ban,” he added.
Britain and Austria have already challenged the ban.
